Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major cause of death and illness worldwide, and is the fourth-leading cause of death in the United States.
The Boehringer Ingelheim Breath of Life Award salutes those who have made great strides toward providing long-term control and relief to individuals suffering from COPD. The goal of this award is to increase awareness and understanding of COPD and its risk factors and to underscore the benefits of early detection and treatment in slowing the disease and improving the quality of life for people living with COPD.
The recipient of this $10,000 award will be an osteopathic physician, center or program that has made great strides in field of COPD, its diagnosis, treatment and management.

The 2009 recipient was presented with the award on November 1, 2009 during the AOF Honors Celebration in New Orleans. Congratulations!
