On July 17, 2009, at the AOA House of Delegates meeting in Chicago, AOF President Teresa A. Hubka, DO, presented Paul M. Krueger, DO, FACOOG, with the 2009 AOF Educator of the Year Award.
This award is given to an individual who not only emulates the osteopathic profession’s highest standards of excellence in teaching, but also has made significant, long-standing contributions to the academic advancement of osteopathic students and the profession.
Dr. Krueger's cutting-edge insight into the challenges facing medical education, his undeniable leadership and contributions, and his unbridled commitment and enthusiasm are just a few reasons why Paul M. Krueger, DO, FACOOG, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine, was selected as the 2009 AOF Educator of the Year.
Over the years, Dr. Krueger has gained a national reputation as a prominent osteopathic medical educator. His pride in the osteopathic philosophy and profession permeate everything he does; he conveys it by word and deed, inculcating the osteopathic tradition into the next generation of osteopathic physicians. For over 30 years, Dr. Krueger has held teaching positions within the profession and is a sought-after teacher and lecturer. One can often find “Dr. K.” engaged in mentoring students one-on-one, both in the office and in casual settings.
Dr. Krueger’s amazing impact on students, peers, his academic institution, and the osteopathic profession is demonstrated by the many awards he has won, from Teacher of the Year 14 times to being a recipient of the Camden County Commission on Women’s “Men and Women Who Have Made a Difference Award.” His awards’ list culminated with the Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which is the highest award given to any member of ACOOG.
Even though the UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine has gained the most from Dr. Krueger’s many talents as an educator, the osteopathic medical education community has also benefited greatly. Whether it is at the national level providing an invaluable service to the AOA as an editor, author, or women’s health advisory committee member, or at ACOOG as presenter, program chair, Board member, or ACOOG President, Dr. Krueger has mentored his peers and helped shape projects which have influenced care to tens of thousands of patients; Dr. Krueger is the total package.
Dr. Krueger’s outstanding contributions in the area of leadership are seen in both the osteopathic medical education area and within the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has served on the board of trustees of 5 major osteopathic organizations and foundations, and serves on numerous AOA committees and councils. In his role as an educator, Dr. Krueger served on the AOA Council for CME, as Chair of the Steering Committee of the AACOM’s Council of Osteopathic Medical Educators, as Chair of the AOA Women’s Health Advisory Committee’s Subcommittee on Education, on the Opinion Leader Committee on Breast Cancer Treatment Options for the United States Health Care Financing Administration in Washington, DC, and is currently a member of the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.
