New Orleans brought out the best and brightest during the AOF’s 2009 Honors Celebration.
Dressed in evening gowns and tuxedos, the honored students, residents, basic scientists, and DOs proudly accepted their well-deserved awards for leadership, accomplishments in research and education, best practices in osteopathic medicine, and commitment to the osteopathic medical profession.
AOF President, Teresa A. Hubka, DO, presented twenty-two honorees with monetary awards, plaques and much acclaim during Honors 2009. These outstanding individuals, as well as medical centers and programs, not only improve the quality of life for the patients’ they are privileged to serve, they also enhance the reputation and stature of osteopathic medicine nationwide. They represent some of the best of the profession.
Held in New Orleans on November 1, 2009, in conjunction with OMED 2009, 300+ guests not only celebrated professional excellence at Honors 2009, they celebrated the AOF’s 60th Anniversary of serving the osteopathic profession.
The keynote speaker of the evening, Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader and Doctor, William H. Frist, enlightened guests with a look into the crystal ball of healthcare reform. His one-of-a-kind experience including both 20 years in medicine and 12 years in the Senate served as the backdrop for his discussion on the very latest in healthcare reform and implications for America. His extensive career as one of the country's foremost heart and lung transplant surgeons means he is not only educated on the topic, but has lived his word. Today, he is also focused on global health; through mission work, he is making a difference worldwide.
